We are truly honored to have had Detroit’s own Mayor Mary Sheffield open our Spring Showcase this year. A lifelong Detroiter and trailblazer in public service, Mayor Sheffield made history as the first woman ever elected mayor of Detroit, having previously served as City Council President (the youngest person in the city’s history to hold that role.) Her deep roots in this community and her unwavering commitment to Detroit’s youth and neighborhoods align perfectly with the mission of Figure Skating in Detroit. Mayor Sheffield has been a steadfast champion of our program, and her support reminds us that when our city leaders believe in our skaters, anything is possible. We are grateful beyond words for her presence and for everything she does to lift up the young people of Detroit. Thank you, Mayor Sheffield.
